The Aizu Chuo Hospital of the General Incorporated Onchikai Foundation has decided to donate €100,000 (approximately 16.2 million yen) to the IAEA Rays of Hope initiative in gratitude for the various IAEA activities related to radiation safety in Japan following the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, as well as for the IAEA Rays of Hope activities. The IAEA Rays of Hope is a program promoted by the IAEA, aiming to support the use of nuclear medicine in cancer treatment and improve access to cancer treatment in developing countries. In 2022, Aizu Chuo Hospital built a cancer treatment center and, in collaboration with the Fukushima Medical University, aims to realize “cancer treatment accessibility” where everyone can receive advanced cancer treatments. The hospital has established a team of specialists who provide a wide range of treatment options, including surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. It emphasizes patient support systems that offer both physical and social support.A signing ceremony will be held with the attendance of IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi and representatives of the Japanese government.
